Why All This School Work?

I once had some huge amount of overdue homework, so when I started to work on it at home, my mom saw, and gave me like a long lecture about "Your going to be a poor hobo" and asking questions like "Why didn't you finish your work?" I looked like I was listening but less then half of it made sense. Well, anyways after she left for work I was thinking "Why didn't I finish this work?"

I soon figured out why. The first thing that popped into my head was "Was this work worth doing?" I know you're thinking "Of course you retard, what's the point of school?" but I soon realized that I finished half of the work. It just didn't get to the teacher's hand. Here is the main reason: first, some French poster. The teacher told us "If it's not in by this date, then it's an automatic R." I was quite close to finishing it, in fact I just needed to glue it on the poster, but I didn't get it on time. So I didn't bother finishing it. But a week later it comes on to my overdue list.

The same problem applied to over half of my work.

I have been told that I am very lazy. My teacher says "You could be getting 80's if you just finished your work, not just the tests." After, I thought about what she said, and I realized that a piece of paper shouldn't tell you how smart you are. I'm getting A's on tests but C's and D's on incomplete work. Another thing I'm thinking is "Why do I need a piece of paper telling me how smart I am?" and things like "Why do I need to show the school how smart I am?" also like "What the heck, my life sucks." Well not so much the last one but you get the idea. Yeah, I know, I need to get good marks if I want a good job, but when do you hear things like "Oh, I'm sorry. I see you failed grade eight history. I'm sorry, but you don't qualify to be a fireman."

Some of you might be thinking "This guy is an idiot," and I assure you, I am (Just kidding). But you may also be thinking things like "What are you going to do in high school?" Well, what do you think? High school and first term of grade 8 is when it really counts in government paid schools. Why? Because in order to have a chance to become a millionaire, you need to go to university, and in high school, you collect points from grade 9 - 12. Good universities have a certain amount of points to get in. Why first term in grade 8? because in order to get into a good university, you need graduate from a good high school. And good high schools often need to have a interview, or an audition. Either way, it happens during the second term of school, so they ask you for your most current report card, your first term one. If its good your in, if its not, then your not. Luckily for me, I auditioned in Mayfield, a school associated with the regional arts program. My report wasn't the best, but my audition was.

In conclusion, don't break your back trying to get everything perfect, or staying up late to get one piece of homework and find out that the teacher isn't even collecting it. Just pay attention in class, make sure you know your stuff, and don't do any work that is extremely boring. Also remember, first term of grade 8, and high school, is when it REALLY counts. So go along with it once you get there.
